From iconic design to large-scale production process

Renowned design agency Marcel Wanders commissioned Imagebuilders to bring a unique bicycle design to life. Not just any bicycle, but a symbol: a tribute to the beginnings of Randstad, where founder Frits Goldschmeding once took the first temporary worker to work by bicycle. Year after year, Randstad employees receive a unique bicycle, specially manufactured with a new material and theme, creating a symbolic collection over time.

The challenge lay in translating this iconic design into a large-scale and feasible production process. Marcel Wanders sought a partner who could combine speed, reliability, and quality: a production line that had to be operational within a short period of time, but without compromising on design, sustainability, and appearance. The goal? To produce 60,000 bicycles per year, each in a different sustainable material, thereby continuing to tell Randstad's story in a powerful and tangible way.

Our approach

Together with Marcel Wanders, the design was translated into several prototypes. These were refined into an approved 0-model that was ready for production. The entire schedule was then coordinated and a suitable production partner was selected within budget and deadline.

During this process, Imagebuilders monitored every detail: from design and prototyping to process coordination and quality controls. This resulted in an efficient production line that enabled scalability and consistency.
